When might this be useful?
If you exploring the globe using google maps or live maps (I recommend the later!)...
Sometimes you're waiting for updated maps to load. For me I don't mind waiting if it's my internet being slow... but I'd like to know if it's just my computer being lazy!
If the bandwidth monitor says my internet is being maxed out then I'll wait... if it's slowly ticking over I might try refreshing to speed things up. Occasionally I need to restart the browser if it's been open for a long time just to get the ball rolling a bit faster!
