A handy thing to have is a backup of your phone. That sounds really geeky but you won't regret it if you lose your phone and ALL your contacts with it, do yourself a favour and avoid the boring 'lost-my-phone' facebook group.

How?

Both Nokia and Sony Ericsson have PC suites for syncing

your phone to programs like MS Outlook (more info). These will sync not only your contacts but also your calendar, notes and tasks. This can be useful for say lecture timetables?

However for Sony Ericsson you're limited to only syncing with Outlook but I recently came across a great little program called MyPhoneExplorer (it's free) which will allow more control than SE's own program but more importantly syncing will all major email and calendar software eg Mozilla Thunderbird!
